The Castle is dated around the beginning of XI century and it was built above the ruins of an old roman site.
By the second part of the some century the property of Stella went to Marchesi di Albisola then to MArchesi del Bosco.
From 1221 up to 1397, due to the strategic position of the castle, Stella was quarreled over between the republic of Genoa and Savona. After the period up to 1410 the castle was occupied by the french and, in 1421 by the Duke of Milan Filippo Maria Visconti.
In 1477 after trying for sever times, Stella' people got the freedom themselves by fighting.This period infortunately lasted for a short period of time due to french and spanish invasion in the beginning of the XVI (th) century.
Only after the second half of the 1500 Stella went into a long lasting peace period.

CULTURE & NATURE

The territory was under genoan republic up to 1797 and, after 1805 under the French Empire. In the end of XIX and by yhe beginning of the XX Stella went to become, as good as Sassello, an holidays place for genoan workers as the peace and calm which can be found in the 5 stars is a relaxing treatment against the town caotic life.

The five stras shaped town offers everything a tourist can look for as there can be found and unpolluted air, small blue rivers (Who) making Stella being the right place to take relaxing hoolyship.
The wholw territories offers various chances to go for a walk, to make an exursion over well marked paths, to go a ride with horses ar mountain byke looking for nice places surrounded by nature.

SPORT

The territories offers also beautiful landscape and old paths where sports can be practice: riding, mountain bike, rowing, bird watching, fishing, free climbing and exursion.

GASTRONOMY

Stella's gastronomy can be considered the best part of the mix between the seaside of Liguria and the inwords lands (recipes) thus resulting in a tasteful gastronomic art.
The typical Stella's food is based over vegetables, rabbiyt and wild boar meat meat, mushrooms and fresh made pasta (TAGGIAEN CÖ TOCCO ).
The tasteful "PANSOTTI" (erbs stuffed ) with walnut souce the polenta with wild boar meat souce , mushrooms or rabbit souced "tagliatelle" , stuffed vegetables, the wonderful "Cima", the pumpink's cake and, insted of having bread, the famous focaccia or the even better potato's "focaccette".
Don't forget the taste Stella's formaggetta cheese, "The pecorino" and "ricorra" . Talking about sweets a specil mention is for "Tortino Di Castagne", "pandolce" , "Canestrelli" And Stella's Amaretti...
